The Olympics…..

So far we have been learning about the olympics and all the things about it, and these are some of the things we have done:

Interviews- partners make an interview about an Australian athlete.

Poems- poems about the olympics and the olympians.

Olympic values- all the values and the non values in the olympics. eg. ASPIRE which stands for, attitude, sportsmanship, pride, individual responsibility, respect and express yourself.

Athlete/s oaths- learning about it and writing our own.

Research about, host cities, sports/events, ceremonies, countries (that do and don’t participate in the olympics), values and Athletes/ medals/records/P.B (personal best).

Inspirational words- all the words that would inspire you in a way.

eg. dream big, chase, achieve and  pasistance.

Diary entries- choose an athlete or anyone (including yourself) and writing about what would happen, before, during, and after, and all the times of day eg. 6:00am wake up and get dresses. 6:20am eat breakfast, normally toast with butter.

2016 Rio olympic and paralympic mascots-  we’ve learnt about Tom (the paralympic mascot) and Vinicius (the olympic mascot) and all the things about them, like where did they get the names from and ect. and also drawing our own mascots representing our house or class.

Olympic research Questions- finding out questions our teacher has given us. eg in the 1900 Paris olympics winners did not receive medals. What did they receive instead?

Camp Manyung

What a Camp!!

Students had an amazing time, participating in activities, learning new skills and finding out more about themselves.

Here are some examples of students’ writing about their camp experiences……

OH MY GOD! Im at the top 18 meters high i’m so scared. Well there are peaceful birds chirping but that’s not the point. I can’t say can you please lower it because they will think i’m a scardy cat. I was breathing soooooooo heavily. When i looked at the trees I got even more scared because I was taller than them. But then they said 3,2,1 so i pulled.

By Ryan

‘Pull ‘ I was lifted to the ladder I could here people yelling go to the top. as i was being lifted hire I could see the ocean, the trees and mini heads. I could feel the coldness. i could taste the air. i could smell the salty water . once i was at the top i heard people counting down ‘3,2,1,0.’ Then i touched the rope and pulled. WHOOSH, and i was off they stopped the swing and helped me down.

By Nik

“123”!My friends shouted. My tummy was churning. I wanted to get down the other way but I pulled it anyway. L saw the most beautiful view of the ocean. It was lovely. ouch my harness was starting to dig in a little. I could hear voices in my head saying why are you doing this. I almost cried I was having so much fun. then my go was over and I got back onto the ground.

By Layla

I smell the odd smell of tree sap as I am sitting on the solid seat that is loose and hanging. I see the strait flying fox path, making myself a little more brave. The noise of people talking distracts me from the saliva in my mouth. As I start to feel annoyed with myself because I can barely see the ground, making me nervous from the height.

By Lachlan M

Wobble! Wobble! I climbed up the wobbly ladder, leading me to the flying fox. The strong wind hit my face as the rain soaked me. I finally reached the platform. As I was standing on the platform I was waiting to get harnessed to the flying fox. I took a deep breath and I stopped breathing heavily. I sat on the seat waiting for the count down. I heard my friends cheering. 3! 2! 1!

By Jemma

Eer! I felt sick, My tummy was rummbling.I could feel the harness pushing into my tummy. As I climed the ladder I was so nervous then I heard Shalisa say Montanna might vomit. All I could think about was vomiting on the giant swing.

As part of the implementation of our new spelling program, ‘Words Their Way’, students will be required to use magazines and catalogues to find pictures and letters related to their words.

We would like to ask for donations of used magazines, catalogues and ‘junk mail’.

Please ensure they contain appropriate content.

Your donations are much appreciated and we welcome them throughout the year. Thank you for your ongoing support.
